Prestige watch houses are finally realizing that women are serious about their watches and are looking for more than adornment in an investment piece.

Watch collecting, one of the last bastions of masculine-occupied territory, is attracting a growing number of female connoisseurs who are buying them for more than just telling time: a sporty-chic watch for weekend wear, an august statement piece for the boardroom, a more formal mechanical watch for a touch of evening glamour.

But in an industry that is estimated to reap upwards of $40 billion in global sales annually, replica watches for women make up only a small percentage, in part because companies have been slow to recognize that many of the female persuasion actually like watches as more than just a fashion accessory.

Kathleen McGivney, a 40-year-old New York City–based information technology consultant and an avid watch collector, is one of the few female members of a watch-collecting group in Manhattan known as the Red Bar Crew, which meets weekly to discuss haute horology. McGivney owns more than 20 complex watches—timepieces with hundreds of tiny components that work in unison to offer complicated functions. But most of them are men’s watches. “I don’t want to wear bling,” says McGivney. “I want substance, mechanics.”

McGivney is not alone. Tennis great Martina Navratilova is another avid watch collector who says that she regularly turns to men’s offerings to find the precision and functionality that she wants. “I look at both men’s and women’s watches, but the women’s collections have lacked gravitas,” says Navratilova, a brand ambassador for IWC Schaffhausen, which recently launched the Portofino Midsize collection, an ideal line for women.

Complicated watches can retail from around $15,000 to more than $500,000, thanks to the handmade mechanisms inside them, and women are not afraid to pay top dollar to demonstrate their mechanical acumen or celebrate an important milestone. According to Reginald Brack, the international head of retail at Christie’s auction house, “We are seeing more women coming to our auction previews than ever before, easily a 20 percent rise in 2014 over 2013.” As a result, Brack adds, Christie’s is actively seeking more women’s provenance cheap fake watches to add to its offerings.

It requires years of research and development to build new movements that fit inside women’s-size cases and longer still to bring these concepts to fruition. But luxury-watch brands are increasingly willing to make the investment to appeal to the swelling ranks of female devotees. Granted, the first to venture into the women’s luxury-watch world in the past decade were high-fashion and fine-jewelry companies, like Chanel, Dior, and Van Cleef & Arpels. These brands found a way to blend dazzling design with mechanical panache to create watches with serious heft.

Chanel, for instance, worked with luxury-watch brand Audemars Piguet to create a complex mechanical movement for a special edition of its now-famed J12 watch. Dior’s watchmakers went a step further, building an inverse-rotor that sits beside the dial, making it visible to the wearer as a symbol of mechanical refinement.

These watches met with considerable success, spurring even more interest on the part of leading brands, like Patek Philippe replica watches sale, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Girard-Perregaux, and Ulysse Nardin, to create discrete collections for women that went beyond the razzle-dazzle. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Rendez-Vous line, one of the first collections of note made specifically for women, now includes complications such as a moon-phase indicator, a tourbillon, and even a minute repeater. A highly coveted complication in the men’s market, a minute repeater chimes the hours, quarter hours, and minutes on demand and is one of the most sophisticated movements made— complete with tiny hammers and gongs to achieve the melodious modes.

Patek Philippe developed a minute repeater for women, a tourbillon escapement, and a complex chronograph, unveiling them over the course of two years. Even independent watchmakers—such as Richard Mille, Peter Speake-Marin, and Christophe Claret—have built special women’s replica watches, finally capturing the right blend of brains and beauty to satiate women collectors.

Mixed fortunes for the Geneva auctions

Each spring and autumn, for one week the capital of Swiss replica watchmaking becomes the capital of auction sales. An unusually warm November sunshine welcomed bidders to the latest sessions. Phillips presided over two sales: the now famous Only Replica Watch and Two. Antiquorum was also present, along with stalwarts Christie’s and Sotheby’s, the latter for its unique History of Swatch Design.

Patek Philippe Replica Reference 5016The scene was set for this twice-yearly ritual. The economy being what it is, observers were eager to see what signal the auction market would send; a market that represents barely a few percent of global watch revenue yet remains a showcase for high-end brands and an important vehicle for their image. Results, as it turned out, went in all directions.

Only Watch, launched in 2005 as a fundraiser for research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy, confirmed it is a one-of-a-kind event for one-of-a-kind modern replica watches. Each year brands rival with imagination, and with the 44 lots in the sale garnering more than CHF 11 million in all, the 2015 edition was clearly a huge boost for the charity in question, Association Monégasque Contre les Myopathies, but also for those brands whose timepieces exceeded their pre-sale estimate, such as Laurent Ferrier,Louis Vuitton, Urwerk and François-Paul Journe.

Replica Tudor Heritage Black Bay OneThe real stars of the show, however, were elsewhere. Patek Philippe, unsurprisingly, was one. More surprising is the price fetched by its very lovely Reference 5016 Grande Complication, a unique Tourbillon, minute Perpetual Calendar in steel. It sold to an English buyer (apparently) for over ten times its estimate at CHF 7,300,000. Quite simply the highest price ever paid for a wristwatch at auction. It alone accounted for three-quarters of proceeds from the sale.

Back in the spotlight in recent years, Tudor came with its one-off piece: a Heritage Black Bay One that reprises the design of the Tudor Submariner from 1954. It has a specific bezel, crystal, dial and hands compared with the series-produced Black Bay, making it a highly anticipated lot among collectors. Given that it is the only one-of-a-kind watch ever made by Rolex replica and/or Tudor, expectations were high for it to go above its estimate of CHF 3,500-4,500. Even so, at almost 120 times the pre-auction estimate, the final price of CHF 375,000 amazed everyone. A result worthy of the event and all for a good cause!

Phillips’ sale, The Geneva Watch Auction: Two, confirmed “Magic” Aurel Bacs’ incomparable talent for assembling an outstanding catalogue. Such an impressive collection in both number and quality, and the presence of seasoned collectors ready to snap up the most exceptional lots at prices that bear no resemblance to any other type of context, generated a total CHF 28 million, with 95% of lots sold. Collectors were particularly drawn to the most outstanding pieces in terms of rarity and quality, including the highlight of the sale. Lot 169, a Patek Philippe split-seconds chronograph Reference 1436 in steel from 1945, one of only two known examples, went for CHF 3.3 million.

Patek Philippe replica watchesThese figures made for a stark contrast with the rest of the week’s sales whose catalogues were unable to rival with that of Phillips and which, though certainly prolific, fell somewhat short of previous results.

Here again, there was a definite tendency to focus on lots with a particular point of interest, be this rarity and provenance, inscriptions that render the item unique, or an unusual history. Examples include a Vacheron & Constantin pocket replica watches from 1945 depicting the Shah of Iran, estimated at CHF 8-12,000 and selling for CHF 50,000 (lot 153, Sotheby’s); a fine Audemars Piguet chronograph with complete calendar, manufactured in 1942, estimated at CHF 80-140,000 and selling for CHF 353,000 (lot 84, Christie’s), and a 1937 Omega Aviator, estimated at CHF 8-12,000 and selling for CHF 43,750 (lot 8, Antiquorum).

For many other items of more “ordinary” provenance, in less than impeccable condition, or lacking any particular interest, the hammer hit the rostrum at a much lower price, sometimes even failing to make the reserve. The same fate awaited many of the modern watches on offer. A full-set steel Rolex Daytona from 2008 is a striking example. Estimated between CHF 8,000 and CHF 12,000, it failed to find a buyer… a turn-up for the books, considering this was for many years the most sought-after sport watch.

Vacheron & Constantin pocket replica watchesAfter climbing to dizzying heights, the market for vintage Rolex replica watches now appears to be slowing down. Such icons as the single and double red, certain GMT models and even some Daytonas fell within their estimated price range, in certain cases towards the lower end. Only a handful of Daytonas went above estimate, and sometimes only by inches. The times they are a-changin’?

Other brands fared better. Universal Genève, which is creeping back into the spotlight, Angelus and certain Heuer watches managed to produce satisfactory results while Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms confirmed it is the star of dive watches. Note also a strong performance by the various Vacheron Constantin watches offered up for sale, at Phillips in particular, and those from Piaget, especially the 1970s women’s watches that have become a hallmark of the brand. Among the more contemporary pieces, François-Paul Journe showed that it has earned the esteem of serious collectors.

The History of Swatch Design at Sotheby’s presented four thousand items combined into one single lot that traced Swatch’s different styles throughout the 1980s. They included technical drawings, prototypes and over a thousand watches from the collection of Marlyse Schmid and Bernard Muller, the two designers who were instrumental in the brand’s artistic development. It sold for CHF 1,330,000.

Omega Replica AviatorWhat could be seen as an underperformance can be partly explained by the lack of Asian and Russian bidders. This new state of affairs reflects the delicate situation within major markets that were, until recently, still extremely active. And so it appears that the spread of economic slowdown is affecting not just sales of new replica watches, but auction results too. How much this trend digs in will be seen at the next session’s sales.

In the meantime, satellite initiatives are emerging with the launch of online watch stores, including at Antiquorum and Christie’s, and the arrival of new players such as Iconeek whose catalogues of less “out of the ordinary” models, more affordable prices and lower commissions could well provide an interesting alternative.

Planet Replica Watches has reinvented itself more than once; there can be no doubting that this time, as always, it will bounce back.

Patek Philippe Replica Reference 5170G-010 (Black Dial)

Presented earlier this year at Baselworld 2015, the fake Patek Philippe Reference 5170G-010 with black dial was one of our favourite timepieces showcased during the event.

Patek-PhilippeWith many design elements – black dial, applied Breguet numerals, leaf hands – in common with the larger Split-Seconds Chronograph Ref. 5370, the new reference 5170G-010 joins the white-dial 5170G-001 on Patek’s catalogue. Colour of the dial apart, the new version differs in the lack of pulsometer scale (which made it possible to design larger registers) and the leaf hands in place of sword-shaped hands. We think that these changes successfully enhanced the aesthetic balance of the Swiss replica watches.

The classic round case has a diameter of 39.4 mm and is crafted from white gold, perfect in combination with the ebony black opaline dial.

Patek-Philippe-1The Breguet replica numerals and the hours and minutes hands are made of white gold while the central chronograph hand and all the printed markings and text are white for better legibility. The seconds sub-dial is positioned at 9 o’clock while the instantaneously jumping 30-minute counter is symmetrically positioned at 3 o’clock.

Inside, and visible through the sapphire crystal case back, we find the calibre CH 29-535 PS, an exceptional hand-wound chronograph movement based on the principle of the column wheel, here crowned with a polished cap.

The clutch lever is easily recognizable for the classic “S” shape.
Patek-Philippe_3The large four-spoke Gyromax balance wheel with four poising weights beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 semi-oscillations/hour). The calibre has a guaranteed power reserve of 65 hours (58 hours when the chronograph is activated).

The movement also has a stop-seconds feature that makes it very convenient to accurately synchronise the cheap fake watches with an official time signal when the crown is pulled.

Patek-Philippe-Calibre
Developed entirely in-house on the basis of traditional principles, this movement also embodies six patented innovations which improve precision, reliability and longevity.
Matched to a shiny black alligator strap with square scales and fold-over clasp, the Replica Patek Philippe Reference 5170G-010 is a dream chronograph with a retail price of Swiss Francs 71,500 / Euro 74,500 / US$ 81,000.

Vintage Eye for the Modern Guy Replica Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso

As we enter part 4 of our “Vintage Eye” series, we come to yet another classic and innovative watch, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso. First designed in 1931 for British Army polo players stationed in India, the watch with the now-iconic pivoting case quickly earned its status as the original sports cheap  replica watches combining purposed functionality with exceptional wearability. Today, there are countless variations on the original piece — from moon-phases to tourbillons, from dual-dialed cases to diamond-studded dials — but all of them remain faithful to the original vision of the watch: consumer-catered tailoring, and unmistakable style. Plainly put, the JLC Reverso has not only become a hallmark for the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand, but has acquired a “cool factor” that has enabled it to retain a strong following (disregarding a slight falloff during the Quartz Crisis) for more than 80 years.

JLC Reverso vintage 1931

The first watch we’ll take a look at this week is the Reverso Classique (Ref. 2508412). This piece is available in 10 different stylings, with this particular version sporting a stainless steel case and a clean, white dial strapped up on matte black crocodile leather. The watch distinguishes itself with unique blue “baton” hour and minute hands (the classic Reverso has traditionally not included seconds hands), a similar colored minutes counter, and what I find to be the most significant detail, the black Arabic numerals. The numerals, along with the rest of the graphics on the dial, seem to have a “human” quality to them: slight imperfections give the Jaeger-LeCoultre replica watches the appearance that it has lived a previous life before it made its way to your wrist. This particular reference uses the Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 846/1, and maintains the classic Reverso proportions, 38.5 mm x 23.1 mm for length and width, respectively. You will be able to find the Classique for around $5,650.

JLC Reverso Ref. 2508412

Despite my preference for vintage, I like this watch a great deal. It is certainly not a full-on replica of the tan-and-black, semi-minimalist Reverso of 1931, but instead combines a healthy amount of heritage with contemporary coolness. If anything, this is the much-improved Reverso that René-Alfred Chauvot (the watch’s original designer) could have hoped to create. It has a fully functioning, reversible case that is able to pivot at more than just a single corner of the cheap IWC replica watches (one of the original version’s main flaws), it has a much more water-resistant case and shock-absorbing movement (which makes sense for what was envisioned, originally, as a sports watch), and the dial has been able to fuse simplicity with soul, which is a rare feat in itself.

JLC Reverso in glove

None of this is to imply that the Omega fake watches does not pay sufficient tribute to earlier models in its lineage: the case is still practically the same design as it has always been (with JLC refraining from brushing the steel, as many brands have chosen to do with their modern pieces), the smaller minutes counter is the same design as older, complete-dial versions (in what I’m positive was purposeful to maintain the “Art Deco” aesthetic), and the crocodile leather strap is of a higher quality, which no one will argue against. Jaeger-LeCoultre did a good job with this watch, and should be proud of where their hallmark stands today.

The next best TAG Heuers replica watches we’ll look at is the Reverso Duo (Ref. 2718410, below). This watch was released in 1994 as part of a larger ’90s push by JLC to develop more contemporarily designed pieces. Rather noticeably, this is quite a different watch than the Reverso Classique. With two different reversing dials, one white and one black, the Duo is able to transition quickly and simply from one time zone to another by means of a pusher above the crown. Both dials now include a round component at the six o’clock mark, and the piece is powered by a single movement, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 854/1.

replica Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Ref. 2718410

Outside of these technicalities, the two different dials bear very little resemblance to one another; the black dial takes advantage of circular accents (and even includes a 24-hour indicator at the bottom), “eventail” hands, and fewer Arabic numerals for the hour markers. The white dial uses two-toned square accents (outside its seconds counter), sticks with the blue “baton” hands for the hour and minute, and uses many more numerals for the hours, adding to what I find to be a more classical look. The Duo is listed significantly higher than the Classique, at $9,150.

One of the greatest aspects of the original Reverso, outside of the flipping case and cool backstory, was the level of customization customers could add to their watches via caseback engravings. The Duo takes that same spirit of the Reverso and Jaeger-LeCoultre and transforms it into a memorable contemporary piece. The white dial and stainless-steel case pays homage to past Reversos, focusing on the numerals, “Art Deco” styling, and hands, while the black developed a more modern take, with its triple-toned, partly textured dial, circular accents, and sword-like “eventail” hands. The fake Cartier watches sale, in my opinion, represents very well what the brand, and the watch, strives to be in the modern day — with a 24-hour indicator or a seconds counter, with a white or black dial, with circle or square subdials —a timepiece that everyone who appreciates something unique and out-of-the-ordinary will enjoy.

replica Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Ref. 2718410 - two dials

As you can probably tell, I really like the Reverso collection overall. I feel it is one of the few examples of modern Patek Philippe replica watches that have been able to honor what it used to be decades ago, while continually breaking new ground in the present. It still hand winds when it could have fully transitioned to a quartz or mechanical automatic movement, it has kept basically to its original 1931 proportions, and even with both of these “limitations,” it continues to improve in its design through better movements, more versatile reversing cases, and modern manufacturing techniques. With all of that said, I still don’t wear either of these myself. Both pieces are relatively “long” (to be expected of rectangular watches), and I know I have neither the courage nor large enough wrists to pull it off. But who knows? Perhaps I’ll try on one of the smaller ladies’ model first and see if it grows on me.
